Albert's Story

NEW LISBON - Albert J. Kanser, 70, of New Lisbon, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at his home.
Al was born the son of John and Mary (Potanko) Kanser in Troy.
He worked in construction for many years including work on Bassett Hospital and the Gilboa Power Project.
When Al was through with the workforce, he turned his attention back to his love of model planes. Al served as AMA district II AVP, known as "Mr. Stinger" for flying the Lanier aircraft. As a result of Al's passion for safety the life-saving Automated External Defibulators (AED's) are eligible for AMA Flying Site Assistance Grants.
President of the Leatherstocking Buzzards, Al was also a member of the Oneonta RC Flyers and the Lazy Eights.
He was a man who could make one laugh over any situation. Al would never let anything hold him back and left a lasting impression on all he had met.
He is survived by his sons, Russell and Joseph; and his grandchildren, Andrew and Sierra Kanser.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
Al was a large supporter of hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr. Oneonta, NY 13820.
Online condolences may be made to the family at www.johnstonfh.com.
