NEW BERLIN - Alexa A. Stanton, 68, of New Berlin, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, in Albany, surrounded by her loving family.
Alexa was born on July 27, 1949, in Walton, the daughter of the late Stilson and Dorothy Constable Tweedie.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Stanton.
Alexa was a graduate of Walton Central School and State University College at Oneonta. She then completed a 34-year elementary teaching career with the Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School District, retiring in 2005. In addition to teaching, Alexa partnered with her husband, Richard, to operate their dairy farm in Edmeston until 2000.
Alexa loved her family and spent a significant amount of time with her grandchildren riding four-wheelers, playing kickball, catching frogs and leading them on fun adventures. She made sure to decorate for every holiday, Christmas being her favorite! Alexa enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing and quilting, cooking and baking. She also loved reading historical fiction, playing board games and frequenting a garage sale, flea market or antique shop.
Alexa is survived by her loving husband Richard, who she married on Aug. 6, 1982; children, Jeffrey (Michel) Galley of Garrattsville, Paul (Jessica) Stanton of New Berlin, Amy (Michael) Rifanburg of Edmeston, Christi Stanton of Jacksonville, Florida and Julie-Jo Stanton of Pittsfield; her grandchildren, Brianna Soth-Barr, Emily, Claire, Brynn and Molly Rifanburg, Marissa, Austin and Warren Galley and Oliver and Caleb Stanton. She is also survived by her sisters, Lee (Herm) Peterson of Richmondville and Kay (Rodney) Gale of Milford; several nieces and nephews.
A time to remember and celebrate Alexa's life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, at Alexa and Richard's home 183 Burski Road New Berlin, (Town of Pittsfield). Casual attire is requested at the gathering. There will be no calling hours.
