MOUNT VISION - Alfred Murdock, 88, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2017, following a long illness.
Alfred was born on July 24, 1929, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
He attended St. Christina's Boarding School as a young boy and then Cooperstown Central School.
His family traveled extensively, living in Red Bank, New Jersey, New York City, and Los Angeles, California, where Alfred joined the Navy in 1946. He was stationed in Adak, Alaska. In 1950, he joined the Air Force and served for 14 years all over Europe as a Staff Sergeant in communications. Alfred also served for 15 months in Vietnam.
Having served his country for more than 20 years, Alfred retired from the military in 1967 to work in the private sector on Kwajalein Island in the South Pacific.
He later worked for Western Union in Mahway, New Jersey, until he met and married his wife, Anne Marie (Bathen), in 1975. Alfred and Anne traveled all over the world together, and built a home in New Lisbon, which they shared for 40 years.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Anne Marie Murdock; niece, Lisa Wyman, Reno, Nevado; stepdaughter, Deborah Bathen Atlantic City, New Jersey; grandsons, Alexander Koplin, New York City, and Ian Koplin, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In accordance with Alfred's wishes, a private family gathering is planned.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Alfred's memory be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA), 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
Arrangements are entrusted to Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
