ANDES - Barbara Firment, 89, of Andes, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, with her family at her side.
Barbara was born on Nov. 17, 1928, to Thorvald and Marjorie Klindt of Downsville.
Barbara was a graduate of Downsvillle Central School and Cortland State Teachers College.
She married George Firment of Andes on Aug. 21, 1949, and they enjoyed 63 years together until George's death in 2012.
Barbara taught elementary education at Margaretville Central School and Andes Central School and then chose to stay at home raising her children and helping George with the farm.
Barbara enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and was an avid Syracuse University basketball fan. She also loved watching birds and wildlife from her dining room window, playing cards, her 4 p.m. glass of chardonnay and was an avid reader, as well as a bowler for 30 years.
One of Barbara's greatest joys was country music, especially Charley Pride. Barbara, who loved to dance, did the "twist" at her 80th birthday party.
In addition to her husband, Barbara was predeceased by her grandson, Travis, in 2007; and two brothers, Herbert and Roger Klindt.
She is survived by her five children, Nancy O'Reilly of Andes, Joann Firment (Elizabeth) of Conesville, Shirley Gill (John) of Maryland, Ann Kehoe (Mark) of Moravia and Stephen Firment (Therese) of Andes; two brothers, Gary Klindt of Sidney and Alan Klindt (Natalie) of New Syrma Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren, Erin, Ryan, Maureen, Gregory, Angela, Douglas, Derek, and Logan; seven great- grandchildren, Leah, Luke, Kayla, Morgan, Rylee, Aydan, Ava; one great-great- grandson, Tristan; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Daisy.
Contributions may be made in Barbara's name to the Andes Emergency Squad, Andes Fire Department, or Delaware County SPCA.
The family thanks hospice for its care and extends a special loving thank you to Dr. Susan Fiore.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, with Pearl Wilson officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
