ONEONTA - Bertha S. Dana passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, just shy of her 97th birthday.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1921, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Raymond and Tabitha (Lewis) Schuster.
She married Floyd A. Dana on Aug. 9, 1947, at St. James Episcopal Church, Oneonta.
Bertha graduated from Oneonta High School in 1938, spent one year at SUNY Oneonta and graduated from business school in 1940. She worked as a licensed agent in a general insurance office and later as secretary at Center Street and Riverside schools.
She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Atonement, Fox Hospital Auxiliary, Friends of Huntington Library, and a member and past president of the Oneonta Federated Garden Club. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, loved traveling with her husband, and spending time with her family, who loved her dearly.
Bert is survived by her daughter, Susan and her husband, Les LeViness of Davenport Center; her grandson, Matthew R. Klafehn, wife, Ingrid and son, Landry of North Chatham, grandson, Cory M. Klafehn, wife, Lindsay and daughter, Hannah of Malta; and her sister, Gertrude Niggli; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd in 2003; and sister, Ruth Loudon.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5, at Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta. A funeral service to celebrate Bert's life will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, at Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 1 Center St., Oneonta.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bert's memory may be sent to Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Atonement.
