RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Beverley June Van Winkler, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Jan. 3, 2018, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady. She had the peace and comfort of her family at her side.
Beverley was born on July 11, 1937, in Cooperstown. She was the daughter of the late Leo and Vera Rose Wightman.
She resided on her parents' farm in Schuyler Lake and from 1950 to 1955 was a member of the Young Cooperative Dairymen's League Cooperative Association Inc. and junior officer in 1955.
She graduated from Richfield Springs Central School. She continued her education and graduated from the Utica School of Beauty Culture.
On June 7, 1958, she was united in marriage to Frederick S. Van Winkler in Cooperstown. They shared a devoted union of 45 years until his passing in December of 2003.
In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and writing.
She was a mother of three children, two sons, Mitchell Van Winkler and Jeffrey Van Winkler. Jeffrey and his wife, Cheryl Burtch and daughter, Shelly and her fiancé, William Culihan. She had four grandchildren, Tia Van Winkler, Richfield Springs,Taylor Van Winkler, Denver, Colorado, Kaitlin and Kyle Van Winkler, Milford. Also surviving are her sister, Shirley Spraker and husband, Donald Spraker and sister-in-law, Eleanor Wightman; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents; brother, Willis Wightman; and husband, Frederick; she was predeceased by two sons, Michael in 1961 and Robin in 1972.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment, in Springfield Center Cemetery, will be in the spring at a time to be announced.
