COOPERSTOWN - Catherine "Kay" Mabie passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, with family by her side at the home of her daughter, Judy Reynolds of Cooperstown, where she had resided since October of 2015.
She was born in Goshen, on March 25, 1935, to Elsie and Forrest Rosencrans and attended school in Walden.
While living in South Valley, she worked as a secretary for SUNY Cobleskill and raised her family. She then moved and resided for many years in Tavares, Florida, where she worked for the State of Florida Probation and Parole Office. In 1981, she went to work for the Lake County Sheriff's Office Property Division. In 1984, she then worked as the secretary in the Vice Unit for several years before transferring back to the Civil Department in the Sheriff's office, where she became the Supervisor of the unit. In 1995, she finally retired, but not for long, as she then worked for The Haven, a Rape Crisis Unit. In 2012, she returned to the area where she was finally able to enjoy retirement and be with her family. One of her favorite enjoyments was to sit out on the porch where she could see the beautiful mountains and watch the sunset.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Judy (Ed) Reynolds of Cooperstown, Gail Mabie of South Valley, Deborah (Dan) Kiesow of Roseboom; and sons, Mark (Suzanne) Mabie and Michael Mabie, both of South Valley; grandchildren, Michael (Marcie) Reynolds, Matthew Moore, Daniel Moore, Shane Mabie, Adrienne Mabie, Josh Mabie, Brittany Mabie and Bethany (Rich) Muraski; great-grandchildren, Adelaide Reynolds, Douglas Moore, Lilly and Landon Muraski; sister, Barbara (Walter) Roosa of New Paltz; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home. Because of Kay's wishes, there will be no funeral service or calling hours.
If anyone wishes, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
