Charlan's Story

OTEGO - Charlan Eileen (Chapin) Holcomb, 66, of Otego, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at her home.
She was born to the late Charles and Marian Chapin, on Sept. 16, 1951, in Oswego.
She married Donald R. Holcomb on June 23, 1979, at the United Methodist Church of Unadilla, who survives.
Charlan was the beloved wife of Donald R. Holcomb; devoted mother of Donna Burghardt and husband, Mark, Doreen Bartczak and husband, Jonathan, Desmond "Butch" Cummings and wife, Orfilia, Michael Holcomb and wife, Merrie, Erica Burkhart and husband Eric, Amanda Holcomb and fiancé, Macon Wilson; loving "Nanny" of Stephen, Jarrett, and Genna Burghardt, Sara and Shane Bartczak, Devin, Morgan, and Kristen Holcomb, Olivia Cummings, and Kinslie Burkhart. She was the sister of Brenda Strain and husband, Charlie, Nancy Chapin, Deborah Wade, and her husband, Donald, Mitchell Chapin and wife, Kathy. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Chapin; and sister, JoAnna Chapin.
Charlan "Charlie" was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her family and loved being "Nanny" to her 10 grandchildren. Charlie loved holidays and family get-togethers. Any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.
We all were blessed to have such an extraordinary person in our lives. Charlie had a special way of feeling like a "mom" or close friend to many people and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Family and friends will gather at the Westcott Madden Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Unadilla, for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17.
