Charles's Story

ONEONTA - On Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, Charles F. Meeker Jr. "June" went to be with the Lord and join his wife, Marlyn, who he loved and missed dearly.
Charles was born on Dec. 12, 1926, in Prattsville, the son of Charles and Alzina Meeker.
He graduated from Gilboa-Conesville Central School in 1945. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving under General George Patton in the 309th Infantry during World War II until December 1946 and received the Victory Medal.
On May 5, 1951, he married Marlyn S. Miller. They resided in Prattsville for 65 years.
Together they raised their four sons, with love bringing them up with strong Christian values and a strong work ethic. During this time, Charles worked many jobs to provide for his family; most recently at Blenheim Creamery, N. Blenheim and Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl, Hunter, before he retired.
He attended Huntersfield Christian Center in Huntersfield, where they worshiped and made new friends for a season. He then attended Prattsville Community Church (AKA Prattsville Methodist Church).
In 2016, Charles moved to Oneonta to be closer to his wife, who was a resident of Oneonta Rehab & Nursing Home.
During his later years, he enjoyed traveling, camping, eating out and caring for his wife. His family will miss his sense of humor, his quiet manner and love that he shared.
He is survived by their four sons, Steven and Shanna Meeker of Oneonta, Richard and Sharon Meeker of Burgaw, North Carolina, Michael and Diane Meeker of Windsor and Gregory Meeker of Wallace, North Carolina. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Jayson Meeker (Oregon) and Joshua Meeker (Florida), Chad Meeker (N. Carolina), Heather Meeker (Pennsylvania) and Michael Meeker (New York), Nichole Meeker and Justin Meeker (both N. Carolina); 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Charles is predeceased by his wife, Marlyn; sisters, Hazel, Helen Becker (Prattsville), Emma Jackson (Fonda), Catherine Lennon (Oneonta); and brother, Albert (Prattsville).
A graveside committal service will be held at a later date for Charles and Marlyn at the convenience of the family.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Prattsville Community Church, Prattsville, NY 12468.
Condolences may be made to the family online at www.grummonsfuneralhome.com.
Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.
