Charles T.'s Story
CHENANGO FORKS - Charles T. Gilroy, 73, of Chenango Forks and Sandy Pond, lost his battle with cancer Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Gary (Kathy) and Charles II (Sara); granddaughter, Kylie; grandsons, Charles III and Phineas; brothers, Leo (Margaret) and James (Susie); sisters-in-law, Linda (Tex) Hofsdal; Laura Meres and Joyce Maddalone; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leo Sr. and Mary Gilroy, Binghamton; and in-laws, Gilbert and Marguerite Meres, Delhi.
Charles retired in 2005 after 44 years in the automotive business.
He was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and enjoyed seeing his sons and grandchildren participate in the Binghamton St. Patrick's Day parade as he proudly carried the Irish flag.
Charles was a lifetime member of the Sandy Pond Sportsmans Association where he volunteered and enjoyed the Friday golf outings. His greatest joy was the family vacations and boating at Sandy Pond. Charles dearly loved his family and will be missed.
He and Phyllis traveled the United States, Ireland and Canada, took many cruises, snowmobiled NYS, Canada and Yellowstone Park, golfed and enjoyed the lake.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton. The Rev. Timothy J. Taugher will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m., Saturday at the McCormack Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles' name may be made to the AOH Building Fund, 148 Main St., Binghamton, NY 13905.
