Donald Morton Akulin


PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Donald passed away on May 19, 2019, with his family by his side.
Don was born Jan. 3, 1930, son of Gertrude (Rubenstein) and Eli "Al" Akulin.
He served his country proudly enlisting in the Marines and was honored to return to duty with the Korean Conflict.
He married the love of his life, Libby Block, on June 27, 1953.
An avid gardener, he also loved fishing and hunting. He will always be remembered for his love of animals and treated his pets as if they were his children.
He was a life member and PER of BPOE No. 1312. Proud of his Masonic affiliation, he was a 32nd degree Mason and Past District Grand Lecturer of Martha Chapter No. 116 OES.
He was a family man who loved spending time with his entire family. He is survived by his children, Lynne (Harvey), Faye (Rick), Kevin (Susan) and Beth (Roger); grandchildren, Shannon (Derrick), Michele (Tim) and Bayla (Scott); great-grandchildren, Ni'esa, Galisia, MarQies, Eryka, Benjamin; and step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He also survived by his brother, Owen; sister, Suzy (Lou); sisters and brothers-in-law, Minya (Herbie), Sherry and Fred; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife.
The family will be sitting Shiva in Philadelphia this week and in Oneonta at 1875 County Highway 48 on Wednesday and Thursday.
The family requests that anyone wishing to make a donation in Donald's name may do so to Temple Beth El, P.O. Box 383, Oneonta NY, or the animal shelter of one's choice.
