ONEONTA - Dorothy A. Weiss, 89, of Oneonta, passed away at Fox Hospital, Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, following a brief illness.
Born on Nov. 18, 1928, in NYC, she was the daughter of Mary and John Bennetti.
Dorothy had a long career as a mortgage officer at Beacon Federal Savings & Loan Association in Baldwin. She was a wise business woman and a self-taught economic investor.
Upon retirement, she pursued her love of books by working at North Bellmore Public Library. Dorothy was proud to have been employed at the library for more than 20 years, working until the age of 83.
In 2013, she sold her home in Bellmore and relocated to Heritage at the Plains at Parish Homestead in Oneonta, where she lived independently until her death. Dorothy could always be found reading, chatting with friends, and playing bingo.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Ronald J. Weiss (Marian Hiemstra), Robert J. Weiss (Maryann); daughter, Patricia A. Weiss; grandchildren, Andrew (Katie), Lauren, Bryan (Christina), Shannon Curtin (Dean), Michael Schiano; great-granddaughters, Ava, Kaylin and Ellison. She is also survived by Ronald's step-daughters, Rebecca and Larissa Hughes.
Arrangements are under the direction of Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
