POTTSTOWN, Pa. - Edward P. O'Malley, 59, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, surrounded by his family. To all that knew him he was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Edward was born on Sept. 23, 1958, in Oneonta, the son of William and Marie O'Malley.
He graduated from Oneonta High School in 1977, Broome Community College in 1979 and State University College at Oneonta in 1981.
Edward was a passionate sports enthusiast playing tennis, basketball and golf. He was a loyal fan following his New York Yankees and Giants. One of his greatest joys was routing from the sidelines as his daughter, Marie, played in various sports.
Ed followed his passion for tennis working at the Harry Hopman/Saddlebrook International Tennis Resort and as director of tennis of the Cooperstown Country Club and Binghamton Tennis Center. He later continued his love for tennis as a coach at SUNY Oneonta and Swathmore College in Swathmore, Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his mother, Marie O'Malley of Oneonta; wife, Linda O'Malley of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Deric Frost of Scottsdale, Arizona; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Steve Opie of Chenango Forks; brother, William O'Malley of Chattsworth, California; stepchildren, Shannon Koval of Alexandria, Virginia and Ryan Taylor of Middle Village; three grandchildren; and nieces, Eileen Peet and Anna Rotach.
He was predeceased by his father, William O'Malley.
Edward will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
