ONEONTA - Edward R Thompson Jr., 95, of Oneonta, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
He was born on March 16, 1922, in Otego, the son of Edward R. Sr. and Gladys (Gray) Thompson.
He married Loretta Woolheater on Dec. 1, 1940. She predeceased him in 1992. He later married Barbara Gravelin in 1994. She predeceased him in 2008.
He served in the United States Navy (Seabees) during World War II on the Island of Tinian.
Settling in Oneonta, Edward owned and operated the West End Body Shop of Oneonta for 32 years. He retired in 1984.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Denise Perry of Maryland; son, Jeffrey (Wendy) Thompson of Wilmington, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and sisters, Rosemary Wiltsie of Oneonta and Shirley Sullivan of Melbourne, Florida.
He was predeceased by brothers, Irving, Rupert, Don and Lynn; and a sister, Elna.
There will be no calling hours. A private burial service will take place at a future date.
