ONEONTA - On Dec. 20, 2017, Elizabeth J. Sanders, 32, left this life quietly surrounded by many of the family and friends who supported her through a long and arduous walk with cancer.
Lizzy was born Feb. 28, 1985, in Bradford, Pennsylvania. She came to the Oneonta hills she grew to love as a toddler, the daughter of Barbara and Bill Sanders. Spirited, inquisitive and outgoing from the beginning, she went to Valley View School and Oneonta High School.
She worked as a CNA at A.O. Fox Nursing Home where she enjoyed the many people she met there. Lizzy had a big soul and was loved by many. Her greatest joy was her daughter, Cayce. Other loves were her pets and all creatures in the world.
Having to over-come numerous challenges in life, Liz developed a strong and determined personality.
Lizzy's last six years were a valiant struggle to maintain harmony amidst the progression of illness. She felt a special affinity for hiking and being in nature, at home and in Ireland where she found great strength and vision. Her amazing photographic documentation of her walks on the hill, her love for her land and her family, actual and extended, were a gift she shared almost daily. From sunrise to final sunset, she showed us her unique mix of strength, beauty, anger, joy and resolve.
Lizzy benefited from the outstanding care from Bassett Cancer Center and Mass General Hospital Cancer Center. She and her family greatly appreciate the support they received during her treatments.
She is survived by her daughter, Cayce Palmeter; parents, Bill and Barbara; sister, Sarah; grandmother, Elizabeth; grandparents, Kathy and Charlie; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Dear to her heart were Emil, Sara, Lindsey, Brielyn, and many others, as well as the children of her friends and cousins, who she took on as her own beloved "adopted" children.
Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m., with a time of Remembrance at 4 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to, Bassett Healthcare Cancer Center, 1 Atwell Drive, Cooperstown, NY 13326, Mass General Hospital, Development Office, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114 or Catskill Area Hospice, 297 River Street Service Rd, Oneonta, NY 13820.
