ROXBURY - Ernest Smith Ballard, 63, a longtime resident of Denver, died Wednesday March 7, 2018, at Albany Medical Center.
Ernie was born at Margaretville, on June 6, 1954, the son of Ivan Smith and Mary (Lennon) Ballard.
Ernie graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1972.
He married Lori Jean Hendricks, daughter of George and Elizabeth Hendricks Sr., in 1984.
He was employed at several area companies including Becker's Tires, The Flower Shop, Lynn Kelly Construction, Country Home Security and, for 24 years worked at Simulaids's Inc. in Saugerties, most recently as warehouse manager.
Ernie grew up on the family farm in the Denver-Vega area. He enjoyed the time spent with family and friends. He liked be outdoors appreciating nature, riding his 4-wheeler, hunting, fishing. Ernie enjoyed watching Western and action movies. He had a great interest in farm tractors. He was a hard worker and always willing to lend a helping hand. His trip to Hawaii was something he truly enjoyed.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Lori Jean Ballard; son, Garrett Smith Ballard; sisters, Ethel (Norman) Marcus of Accord, Evelyn VanDeBogart of Arkville, Eva (Robert) Sanford, Denver; and nieces and nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; and sisters, Esther and Eleanor.
Funeral services will be held at the United Presbyterian Church, Margaretville, on at 1 p.m., Monday March 12, with Pastor Shirley Davis officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Committal prayers will be held in the spring in Vega Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Ernest Smith Ballard may be made to the United Presbyterian Church in Margaretville.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
