EAST SPRINGFIELD - Florence W. Brown, 95, of East Springfield, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the St. Johnsvillve Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on Nov. 7, 1921, in Canajoharie, to William and Nettie Mac (Higgins) Wells.
She married Adelbert (Sam) Brown in Canajoharie on May 26, 1946.
Florence, known as Flossie to many, was employed by Bankers Trust, formerly First National Bank of Cooperstown and retired in 1985. During that time, she also volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother. After retirement, she was the tax collector for the Town of Springfield for 25 years.
As an avid reader and card player, Florence worked at the General James Clinton Library, the Springfield Library and was a member of the Club of Ten Pitch Club. She was honored for her service to her community when she and Frank Van Auken were co-grand marshals of the 98th Springfield Fourth of July Parade.
Florence was predeceased by her parents; husband; eight sisters and their husbands; and a great-grandson, Cody.
She is survived by her three children, Judith (Scott) Kolstad, Alan (Maria) Brown, Joyce (Steven) Toner; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 15, at the Springfield Presbyterian Church, with Lyman Johnson officiating. Burial will be private.
