ANDES - George W. Knapp, 91, of Andes, passed away at his home on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 7, 2017,
Born on Jan. 17, 1926, in Sidney Center, he was the son of the late Edward and Evelyn (Rosa) Knapp.
Mr. Knapp was married to the former Marion Bordeau. She passed away in 1989 and George later was married to Sarah Fuller, who passed away in 2015.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946.
George worked for the Andes Creamery, Decker's Lumber and Hardware and also enjoyed helping out on Walter Gladstone's farm.
Mr. Knapp was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting fishing and being outdoors. George had an extensive collection of fishing rods and, a gun enthusiast, he was a life member and proud supporter of the National Rifle Association.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with family. He loved to instill them with outdoor skills, teaching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to hunt and fish.
Besides his spouses, George was predeceased by a son-in-law, Thomas Rucher; and grandson, Scott Rucher.
He is survived by his children, Sandra L. Hunter of Oneonta, Roy Knapp of Franklin, Randy F. (Sabrina) Knapp of Mt. Vision and Shari (Don) Anderson of Andes; grandchildren, Carolyn, Darlene, Dustin, Nikki, Crystal, George, Curt, Jeffrey, Dillon, Jennifer, Christopher and Meg; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, who George loved as his own; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services and burial will be held in Andes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
