Gerald C.'s Story
ONEONTA - Gerald C. Rogers of Oneonta and Safety Harbor, Florida, passed away on Sept. 16, 2017.
Born Sept. 2, 1925, to Arthur and Iva (Cronk) Rogers in Harpersfield, Gerry grew up in Hobart and Davenport.
Predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Munson Rogers,
he owned Rogers Appliances in Oneonta and he taught air conditioning and refrigeration at SUNY Delhi.
A Paul Harris Fellow in Oneonta Rotary Club, he also served in Florida on the Briar Creek board of directors and as social club treasurer.
A member of Main Street Baptist Church, he served as treasurer and trustee.
He served in the United States Army from 1944 to1946 in the 43rd Division 169th Infantry in New Guinea and during the Liberation of the Philippines. His unit was also one of the first to occupy Japan at the end of World War II.
Gerry is survived by daughters, Sherry (Thomas) Miller of Oneonta, Kathy (Thomas) Monahan of Maryland; son, Douglas (Martha) Rogers of Florida; grandchildren, Karin Miller, Brett (Aimee) Miller, Jaclyn (Adam) Judge, Kristin Monahan, Ryan (Becky) Monahan, Gregory Monahan, Erin Rogers and Julie Rogers; great-grandchildren Aiden Miller and Gabriel Judge and brother, Donald Rogers of Florida.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 30, at Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, followed by a memorial service officiated by the Rev. Gary Bonebrake.
