Gerald's Story

CHERRY VALLEY - CWO-4 Gerald H. Wilmot, 87, of Cherry Valley, passed away Feb. 4, 2018.
He was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Cooperstown to G. Hubert and Edith (Shepard) Wilmot.
After graduating from Cherry Valley Central School in 1947, he went to Hartwick College, Oneonta, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1951. That same year, in June, he married Orva (Hayes).
Gerald had many jobs during his lifetime, from working as a mechanic, owning and running a family dairy/hay business, working in the IGA grocery and finally retiring, after 20 years as a school bus driver for Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School. He also served for 29 years in and retired from the Army National Guard.
He enjoyed working around his home, mowing his lawn, shoveling snow, waxing his cars, one of which was a beloved 1955 Chevy, and going to old car shows. He also enjoyed sitting on his porch reading.
He is survived by his wife, Orva; his four children, Linda Starr of Atlanta, Georgia, Vicky Ellis of Cherry Valley, Wendy (Mark) Parent of Watertown, Gerry (Theresa) Wilmot of Cherry Valley; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
There will be no service at this time.
Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad.
