Gladys's Story

Text size

ONEONTA - On Monday, May 29, 2017, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior welcomed Gladys M. Govern home, to the kingdom of God.
Gladys was born Nov. 30, 1913, on South Hill in Schenevus, the daughter of the late William and Katherine (Horner) Rowe.
On April 28, 1935, Gladys married Kenneth Govern. A few years after marrying, Gladys and Ken together welcomed their beloved daughter, Barbara, into their lives. After Ken's death on Nov. 7, 1975, Gladys and Barbara continued to make Oneonta their home. They had many special places that they frequented throughout the years and so it would only stand to reason that are many, many friends and so many fond memories. A lifetime worth for sure.
Some of the things Gladys enjoyed doing were sewing, knitting, making jewelry and baking.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Barbara, who now resides at Focus; her longtime cherished friends, (family), Rev. Keith and Nancy Marlett, Sarah (Matt), and Emi Moore, Daniel (Adrienne) and Bodie Marlett and special great-niece, Chris Lawson. In addition she is survived by a sister-in-law, Evelyn Jacobs and nieces and nephew, Janice Elderkin, Stanley Rowe, Carol Boyd, Pat Rowe and Jackie Rowe.
A very special thanks to all the staff, administrators and primary caregivers at Focus, who have given so much of their time and selves and have become in essence "family" this past year.
To John and Erin - know that a piece of Gladys' heart belongs to each of you for always.
At 2 p.m., Saturday, June 3, there will be a service to celebrate Gladys' life. It will be held in the chapel at Focus Otsego, 128 Phoenix Mills Crossroad, Cooperstown. The service will be led by the Rev. Keith Marlett. All are welcome to attend. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, we ask you consider making a donation in Gladys' name to Child Evangelism Fellowship, P.O. Box 26, Bible School Park, NY 13757.
