GARRATTSVILLE - Harriet Collison, 85, of Garrattsville, passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2017, following a long, courageous battle with cancer at the home of her son in South Carolina.
On Jan. 22, 1932, Harriet was born in the family home in Hinman Hollow, being the youngest of 11 children of John and Miriam (Reynolds) Fish.
She graduated valedictorian of her class in Hartwick in 1950.
She married Donald Collison May 27, 1951, in the Lutheran Church in Hartwick Seminary.
They spent the early years of their marriage in Edmeston, where she worked at the Otsego School. In 1960, they made their home in Garrattsville, where they were very active in the community including with the Methodist Church, fire department, auxiliary, and Women's Club. She retired from Morris Central School as a teacher's assistant after 25 years.
They enjoyed their retirement, especially golfing and spending winters in Myrtle Beach.
Besides her husband of 66 years, she is survived by her daughter, Barbara Collison, Morris; son, David (Sandi) Collison, Georgetown, South Carolina; granddaughter, Naomi Valentine Northrup (Matthew); sister, Elaine McLean of Hartwick; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
