SOUTH NEW BERLIN - Jack Albert Hazen Sr., 78, of South New Berlin, passed away in the comfort of his home with his loving wife, children and grandchildren by his side on the morning of Jan. 6, 2019.
Jack was born on Oct. 19, 1940 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey and was a son of the late Marinus Peters and Bertha (Reigel) Hazen.
On Feb. 7, 1959 he married the love of his life, the former Roseann Richheimer. They resided in Edison, New Jersey and started their life and family of four children. Together, in 1982 they relocated to South New Berlin where they would leave a legacy of great family, friends and memories.
He was employed for many years at General Motors in Clark, New Jersey as a supervisor. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing baseball and football, farming, racing his 1941 flathead Ford stock car and playing in a General Motors company softball league.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman that could always be found working in his vegetable and flower gardens or tinkering with something in the yard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, target shooting, reloading and took great pride in teaching his children and grandchildren these skills.
He was also fan of boxing, NASCAR racing, reading military and western novels and enjoyed military history. Jack will be remembered as a huge Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan that rarely took his #3 cap off. He had a love for all cars, but enjoyed his Monte Carlo the most.
Jack was the epitome of hard work and always put his wife and family first. He treated everyone with kindness and welcomed them into his home as if they were part of the family.
Jack is survived by his wife, Roseann; children, Jack (Donna) Hazen Jr., Laura Hazen, Todd (Barbara) Hazen, and Darren (Wendie) Hazen; grandchildren, Jack III, Melissa, Colleen, Latrica, Erik, Emily, Katherine, Erin, Amanda and Devan; great-grandchildren, Ezra, Benjamin, Sophia, Rosemarie, Timothy Jr., Allison, Julius, Malakai and Kylianna; brother, Marinus "Pete" Peters; sisters, Lucille Hawk, Donna Hilbers and Tammy Leonard; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack is predeceased by his father, Ezra and brother David.
In keeping with Jack's wishes, no services will be held. His family has trusted his care to the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta, New York 13820.
