FRANKLIN - James W. "Bubby" Hyzer Jr., 65, of Franklin, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
He was born Oct. 30, 1951, in Sidney, the son of the late James W. and Virginia (Laing) Hyzer.
A lifelong Franklin resident, Bubby graduated from Franklin Central School.
He married Donna Wells, who predeceased him on Oct. 8, 2006.
For more than 40 years, Bubby worked for the Town of Franklin Highway Department until his retirement in January 2017.
One of his proudest accomplishments was serving the Franklin Fire Department for 47 years.
He was a simple man of simple pleasures. He loved racing, his family, his dog, "Jake" and serving his community with dignity.
Bubby is survived by his many loving family members and many loving friends.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 307 Main St., Franklin, with the Rev. Elliott Oakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
