Jane's Story

ONEONTA - Jane Marie Knapp, 90, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta with her loving family at her side.
Jane was born on Jan. 21, 1928, the daughter of Anna (Cocundy) and Michael Kukulech.
She married Jack W. Knapp, the love of her life, on Oct. 24, 1948, and lived in the family home in West Laurens for more than 50 years.
Jane graduated from New Berlin Central School. She received a scholarship to attend Faxton School of Nursing in Utica. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1949.
Jane was a nurse at Homer Folks Hospital in Oneonta until it closed in 1973. She worked at the Chestnut Street Nursing Home in Oneonta and finished her nursing career at the SUCO Health Center in 1990.
After retirement, she and Jack bought a retirement home in Zephyrhills, Florida, where they spent winters. In 2006, they sold their home in West Laurens and moved to the Little Red School House in Laurens. Jane moved to The Plains of Parish in Oneonta in 2010 and was one of the first residents of the independent living apartments.
During retirement, Jane and Jack enjoyed travel with family and friends. Some of their travels included Alaskan and Caribbean cruises and a trip to the Grand Canyon.
Jane enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, bible study, gardening, crocheting, baking, trying new recipes, scrabble and making new friends. Her greatest passion and love was for her family. They always came first. She treated family, friends and anyone she met in her kind and gentle way and anyone who met her loved her.
Jane was a member of the West Laurens Community Church, Morris United Methodist Church and West Laurens Homemakers Club.
Jane is survived by her children, Noreen (Tom) Decker, Gari (Jane) Knapp, Bonnie Knapp and Cyndy (Wayne) Yager; grandchildren, Todd (Kristina) Decker, Jason (Kasi) Decker, Jesse (Kindra) Knapp, Emily (Jason) Purvis and Jeremy (Renee) Knapp; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ryan Decker, Natalie Decker, Jordyn and Loryne Knapp, Abbi and Adler Purvis, Jack and Jacob Knapp; great-great-granddaughter, Mya Knapp; brother, George Kukulech and sister-in-law, Hilda Knapp; many nieces and nephews.
Jane was predeceased by Jack W. Knapp in 2007; her parents Anna and Michael Kukulech; and brother, William Kukulech.
The family extends sincere gratitude for the love and care she received from all the wonderful staff at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.
A date and time will be announced for a spring funeral service and burial at the United Methodist Church and Laurens Cemetery.
