Janet's Story

WALTON - Janet B. Gregory, 81, a longtime Walton resident, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at home, surrounded by her family.
Janet was born on July 31, 1936, in Margaretville, the daughter of the late David and Irene (Barber) Birdsall.
She graduated from Walton Central School with the Class of 1954.
On Nov. 4, 1956, she married Carl E. Gregory at the United Presbyterian Church in Walton.
Janet was a bus driver for Walton Central School for 31 years. She was also a farm wife helping Carl run the farm.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking cakes for just about any occasion and going to square dances on Saturday nights. She also enjoyed caring for her beloved dog, Riley.
Janet is survived by her loving family, her husband, Carl; children, Cathy (Don) Scofield of Walton, Betty (Wes) Brundege of Walton, Wayne (Shelley) Gregory of Spartensburg, South Carolina, Jim (Michele) Gregory of Sidney Center and Jerry Gregory of Walton; grandchildren, Marie, Jason and Becky, Eric and Meghan, Alan, Brad, Stephanie, Wayne Jr. "Hig," (Amy), Geoffrey (Andrea), Tiffany, Derek, Kenzie, Renee'and Aiden; great- grandchildren, Alexa, Madison, Logan, Noah, Paisley, Hayden, Annie-Kate and Oliver; sisters, Helen Edwards, Patricia Howe and Karen Gilmore; brother-in-law, Bruce Gregory; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family acknowledges the great care Janet received from Carla Green and Elyn Brundege.
Family and friends are invited to call from 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 6, with Pastor Bob Wilkie officiating. Burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Janet's name may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820, or Walton Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, 59-61 West St., Walton, NY 13856.
