Jason Andrew's Story
STAMFORD - Jason Andrew McLean passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 1, 2017. Jason was a strong athlete, who participated in all sports while attending Charlotte Valley Central School. Jason was born April 8, 1985.
He never passed up an opportunity to be outdoors, whether he was playing in his sandbox, riding his bike to work, golfing, fishing or hunting. Although he did love to ski, snowboard, and sled ride, he was very grateful for his friend, Tom Marino, who talked him into relocating to warmer weather in the fall of 2008.
Jason spent the last seven years working at the Morehead City Country Club, working his way up to assistant superintendent of greens. He was so proud of his work at the golf course that every time his family or friends visited they were assured of a tour, some putting on the greens, and an explanation of his recent challenges such as weed control or hurricane clean up.
After experiencing his first hurricane, he was assigned the job of running the chainsaw for days to clean up downed trees. Jason was never one to shy away from hard work.
Living a few miles from Atlantic Beach, Jason often headed across the bridge to the beach to watch the sunset after cooking his favorite dinner: steak on the grill.
Jason always looked forward to spring when his Aunt Kim and cousin Kayla headed south to visit him, and then October, when he got an opportunity to explore the area with his Aunt Mickie.
In recent years, he was able to enjoy building sand castles, collecting sea shells, fishing and swimming at the beach with Anthony and Alexis. The challenge is in determining who enjoyed the tasks more, Uncle Jas or the kids.
Jason will be forever remembered for his sense of humor.
He leaves behind his mother, Wendy (Jeffrey) Bailey; father, John McLean; and stepmother, Denise McLean. He also leaves his sisters, Jackie McLean (Terry Sarter), Erin (Fred) Blumberg and Sarah (Derek) Scully; nieces and nephews, Alexis Blumberg, Logan Scully, Anthony and Alexis Sarter; grandparents, Donald and Barbara Ackerley, Judy Bailey, Antoinette Murray, and Emilie Larson; aunts and uncles, Kimberly Ackerley, Michelle Ackerley, Wanda (Eric) Signor, Joyce (Gary) Tompkins, Ann (Carl) Cole, Donna (Glen) Williams, Rose Thomas Suchy, Mary (David) Becker, Kathy Bailey Halling, Chris (Susie) Nellis,Jason (Carly) Nellis, Kim (Bryan) Bivins, Jessica (BJ) Wilfreard, Patricia (Russ) Murray, Jane Murray, Susan Murray, Keith (Connie) McLean, Frank (Cheryl) Murray; and many more aunts, uncles and cousins.
