MARYLAND - Joan B. Krpata (Schnakenberg), affectionately known as "Nani," passed away Aug. 27, 2019, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
She was born Aug. 13, 1931, in Hollis.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred, in September of 1994.
Joan married Al in 1950 and they lived on Long Island until they moved to Maryland in 1971. In 1992, after retirement, they moved to Boynton Beach, Florida.
Joan is survived by her children, Elaine LaPre, Linda (Rich) Holub, Keith (Bonnie) Krpata, Barb (Mark) Dulkis and Ellen (Ken) Purdy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Stio and Doris Schnakenberg.
Joan continued to work after moving to Florida and she and Al would take different weekend trips to spend time together. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. While together they would spend time at the beach, play games and go on mini-vacations. One of the places she loved to visit was Loxahatchee Park to look for alligators. Everyone who knew Joan loved her and she will be missed not only by her family, but by her many friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 5, in the Westville Cemetery, Westville. The family invites friends to join them after in the Hartwick room at Best Western to celebrate Joan's life.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Friends of Loxahatchee Refugee-Operations or a local charity of one's choice.
