CANASTOTA - Johanna (Pijnenburg) Rotter, 77, of Canastota, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at Upstate Medical Center following a brief illness.
Johanna was born Nov. 8, 1940, in Tilburg, the Netherlands. She moved to the United States with her mother and seven siblings in 1952, settling in Cooperstown.
She graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1959.
In 1967, she married Peter C. Rotter. The couple started their family in Sherrill, where they resided until 1978 when they moved to their current residence in Canastota.
Johanna was a wonderful mother and devoted wife. After the children left home, Johanna joined her husband Peter and worked for Eastern Microwave, Intermedia Communications and Worldcom Communications. She retired in 1997.
Johanna enjoyed spending time at home tending to her gardens, driving her MG or engaging in any one of her many hobbies.
She enjoyed spending her time with people and especially loved spending time playing with the young children next door.
Johanna will be remembered as a hard working woman who radiated positive energy into the world around her, and serves as a great example of how perseverance, faith and the belief in oneself could help overcome any obstacle.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Rotter; three children, son Jamie and his wife Kelly, daughter Sheri and her husband John, son Anthony; two grandchildren, Kayleigh and Cameron; two sisters, Elssie Tipsword of LaGrange, Georgia and Ans Rasmusson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
The family will host a celebration of Johanna's life on from 1 to 5 p.m.Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the family home outside Canastota for friends and family members.
There will be no calling hours.
