GRAND GORGE - Julia V. Pickett, 81, lifelong resident of the Stamford, Grand Gorge area, passed away on Oct. 31, 2017, in Oneonta.
Julia was born Oct. 1, 1936, in the Town of Gilboa, the daughter of Peter and Florence (Moore) Parys.
She married Richard Pickett on April 7, 1956, in Stamford. Richard died May 1, 1998.
Julia graduated from Stamford Central School and attended Albany Business School. She was employed by Prospect Farms in Stamford and later worked at Audio-Sears Corporation for more than 25 years.
A devoted member of Sacred Heart Parish, she was also a member of the Grand Gorge Seniors Club, an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening and, at one time, did some hunting.
Julia is survived by her children, Daniel (Kim) Pickett of Grand Gorge, David (Heidi ) Pickett of Gilboa; grandchildren, Lance Cpl. James Manon, Brady Pickett, Thomas Pickett and Jonathan Pickett; brothers, Lou (Ruth) Parys and Charles Parys; sister, Mary (Al) Orlowski; brother-in-law, Wayne and Chris Pickett; sister-in- law, Eleanor Pickett; several nieces, nephews and special friends, Pete and Alice Harris.
She was predeceased by brothers, William, Leo and Jerome Parys; and sister and brother-in- law, Marguerite and Ralph Stanton; and brother-in-law, Francis Pickett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday Nov. 4, at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Michael Cambi as celebrant. Committal prayers will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3, at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, in memory of Julia V. Pickett.
The family thanks the staffs at A.O. Fox Hospital and Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the special care given to Julia.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
