COOPERSTOWN - Kevin J. Kenney, 59, of Greenough Road, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Bassett Healthcare surrounded by family.
Born Oct. 14, 1958, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was the son of James R. and Mildred (Anderson) Kenney.
In 1965, the family moved to the Cooperstown area, where he and his sisters were raised. Kevin graduated from Cooperstown High School in the Class of 1978. Following graduation, had several jobs in Cooperstown, and especially enjoyed the Red Nugget with Paula and Terry Wikoff. For the past 28 years, he worked at the Meadows, Otsego Manor, and Focus Otsego.
Kevin was an "artist" in many ways. He loved music and was a drummer, performing with several local bands - most recently with "Traveling Thru." Although he usually played rock and roll and "oldies," he also enjoyed heavy metal. His artistic nature was also satisfied by his painting - he loved to paint in acrylics. Kevin was a devoted nature and animal lover. He especially loved dogs and always had one at his side. He enjoyed the outdoors, as well as all sports. He could often be found watching his beloved San Francisco Giants.
Kevin is survived by his two sisters, Pamela Bornholz of Cooperstown and Susan Antonowicz of Toddsville; his niece, Kelly, her husband, Pierluigi and their children Jozef, Isabel and Jacob of England; his niece, Jennifer of Oneonta; his nephew, Michael and fiancée, Dara of Wisconsin; his godmother, Janet Widman of Florida; and many cousins. He is also survived by many special friends, among them Frank Coleman, Raymond Burr, Cathy and Steve Bouck and Ziggy; Mary Lou Evans, Linda Thayer and Debbie Selan; his many friends at Focus; and the circle of musicians with whom he enjoyed playing.
A gathering of friends and family will occur at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown. A graveside service will be offered in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Index.
The family suggests that those who so desire make contributions in Kevin's memory to the American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502, or Hartwick Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 208, Hartwick, NY 13348.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
