Lavern's Story

MORRIS - Lavern "Boomer" Perry, 78, of Morris, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.
He was born the son of the late David and Katherine Perry on Oct. 20, 1939, in Laurens.
A lifelong resident of Morris, Lavern was a general laborer for Laborers' Local 17 out of Newburgh.
He enjoyed deer hunting and trout fishing in Maine, Connecticut and New Hampshire.
Lavern proudly served his country for six years in the United States Army as a sharpshooter.
He was survived by his brother, Tyrone Perry; as well as nephews, and nieces, Guy Treszi, Lisa Hamilton, Ed Cochran, Cathy Campbell, Barbara Glanville, Brenda Marean, Annette Hammond and David Perry.
Lavern was predeceased by his parents; brother, David; and sisters, Gail and Kay.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Johnston Funeral Home. A graveside military service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 27, in the Hillington Cemetery, Morris.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lavern's name to a veterans organization of one's choice.
