SPRINGFIELD CENTER - Leland Arthur Harvey passed away at the age of 90 on Aug. 30, 2017, at home with family by his side.
Leland was born in Salt Springville on Aug. 5, 1927, to parents Arthur William and Bertha Ripple Harvey.
Leland was an avid reader, history buff, enjoyed hunting with his sons, and family camping trips to the Adirondacks.
Leland worked his family farm in Salt Springville until 1956. He built homes with C. David Smith as a skilled carpenter, plumber, and electrician and then became maintenance supervisor when the Glimmerglass Opera opened its doors at its present site.
For many years Leland proudly served as a Springfield Center volunteer fireman. In earlier years, Leland worked several years and countless hours as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.
Leland is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Tietjen); sons, William, wife, Lori, Edward, wife, Teena, and David, wife, Cindy; and daughters, Susanne, husband, David, Diane, husband, Jack, and Lynne, husband, Chris. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jeremy, Christopher, Travis, Michael, Daniel, Lindsay, Jessica, Max, Noah, and Micaela; nine great- grandchildren; and his older sister, Ethel and younger sister, Phyllis, husband, Dave.
Leland is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth, sister, Grace; and grandson, Matthew.
The memorial graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Sept. 7, in the Springfield Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Springfield Fire Department. Refreshments will follow at the East Springfield firehouse.
