Lois F. Warrell

COOPERSTOWN - Lois F. Warrell, 89, a former long term resident of the village, died Friday evening, July 12, 2019, at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy.
Born Sept. 24, 1929, in Queens, Lois was the daughter of Edward P. and Doris (Whiting) Robinson.
She was raised in Lynnbrook and graduated from Lynnbrook High School in the Class of 1947. She attended and graduated from Hofstra University and thereafter received her master's degree in education from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
While at Hofstra Lois met fellow student Chris Warrell. They were married on Jan. 26, 1951 and shared 50 incredible and wonderful years together. Chris predeceased her in May of 2001.
Lois and Chris moved their family to Glen Head, Long Island, where they lived for many years. During those years Lois was an elementary teacher in the Greenvale Elementary School in Old Brookville. Following their retirements (Chris was also employed in secondary education as a superintendent of schools) they "retired" to the Cooperstown area in 1989.
Lois and Chris were always involved and contributing members of their communities. Lois was a member of Cooperstown Rotary (as was Chris), an active member of the Cooperstown United Methodist Women and served for several years on the board of Pathfinder Village in Edmeston. She was an accomplished quilter and was always busy with one project or another. She was known for her compassionate nature and her love of all kinds of animals but especially dogs. She relished her life in Cooperstown and she and Chris became two of Cooperstown's biggest advocates.
Lois was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Crandall in 2011.
She is survived by Deborah's children, Jenna Crandall of Worcester, Massachusetts and Jonathan Crandall of Westboro, Massachusetts; by her daughter, Susan Fowler (Norman) of Key West, Florida; and by her sister, Carol Ferraro (Edward) of New Jersey.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday July 16, in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown with the Rev. Dana Horrell, Pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church officiating. The family will be in attendance from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday July 15, at Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown, to receive friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to either the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, NY 13326 or, in recognition of her love of animals, to the Susquehanna SPCA Building Fund, 4841 NYS Route 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
Arrangements are under the care of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
