GILBERTSVILLE - Marie H. Burnside, 84, of Gilbertsville, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Fox Hospital.
She was born in Sidney, the daughter of Francis and Ellen (Doolittle) Haggerty.
She married John L. Burnside on Dec. 13, 1952.
Over the years Marie had been employed at the Unadilla Diner, Sidney Hospital and lastly at Gilbertsville Central School.
She was a member of the Coachmen Campers Club, the Garrattsville Senior Citizens Club; she enjoyed baking and was known for her chocolate chip cookies.
Marie was kind-hearted and always opened her home to others. Above all she loved her husband and family more than anything else.
Marie is survived by her five children, Kevin (Laura) Burnside, Michael (Linda) Burnside, Lisa (Ed) Webster, Kim (Bill) Canfield and John (Rhonda) Burnside; grandchildren, Clayton and Austin Burnside, Melissa (Steve) Emmons and Jaclyn (Scott) MacDonald, Cheryl (Jeremy) Lord, Brian, Brett, and Kelsea Webster, John (Kelly) and Kaitlin Sanborn, Corey (Tisha) and Jordan Canfield, Mackenzie, Shelby, and Connor Burnside; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Natalie MacDonald, Kailey and Derek Webster, Hailey and Aubree Canfield, Kylee Canfield, Kendra, Kayla, Lacie and Parker Lord; brother, James Haggerty; sisters, Ann Smith, Margaret Lilley, Cathy (Donald) Osborne and Carol (Ralph) Bennett; sisters-in-law, Audrey Howie and Shirley Goebler; many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Marie was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, John L. Burnside; brothers, Robert and William Haggerty and brothers-in-law, Frank Burnside, Fred Underwood, Warren Lilley, Gordon Smith, Jack Howey and Robert Goebeler; and sister-in-law, Joyce Underwood.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 19, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Light Walkers Church, 139 County Highway 49, Morris, with Rebekah Solar officiating.
