Melvin's Story

UNADILLA - Melvin Chandler Banks, 83 formerly of Unadilla and Afton, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at the Lake Wales Medical Center in Florida.
He was born on Sept. 13, 1934, in Deposit, son of the late Fred and Louise Banks.
He was a resident of Indian Lake Estates in Florida since 1999.
He retired as a machinist at Bendix after 37 years.
A former member of the Moose Lodge in Sidney, Melvin enjoyed gardening and took great joy in taking care of his yard. He also enjoyed going camping.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Vesta Banks; and daughter, Donna Banks.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan S. Banks; son, Steven (Marjorie) Banks, Franklin; daughter, Darlene Wilkins, Greene; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan (Vanessa), Brenton and Jamison (Thea) Banks, Gwendolyn (Rick), Scott (LaTanya), Allen (Jessy) Wilkins; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Terry, Franklin; brothers, Fred (Kathryn) Banks Jr., Franklin, Lee (Alice) Banks, Halifax, Virginia and Kenny Banks; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Unadilla at noon, Monday. The Rev. Brandilynne Craver will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
The family will receive friends at the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to noon Monday before services.
