Merle's Story

ONEONTA - Merle W. Eustice, 95, of Oneonta, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the last 11 years.
He was born Sept. 11, 1922, in Oneonta, the son of the late Robert and Mabel (Walker) Eustice.
On Oct. 14, 1945, Merle married Marian Maben in Oneonta. Marian predeceased him on Sept. 23, 1995, just 21 days shy of them celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
For many years, Merle worked as a grocery clerk at various stores in the Oneonta area and retired from P&C Foods.
He was an avid bowler, enjoyed golfing (and shot two holes-in-one at Cee Jay Golf course) and was a tremendous gardener and could grow anything. While at the nursing home, Merle became a member of the Foxy Fellows Band and played the piano.
Merle was member of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta.
Merle is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and John Adriance of Spencerport; two grandsons, Patrick and Courtney Adriance and their son, Jason of Creedmoor, North Carolina; Benjamin and Eun Jung Adriance of Busan, South Korea; one brother, Harold Eustice of Syracuse; one sister-in-law, Lynne Eustice of Henderson, Nevada; a special friend, Mary Krempf, Inverness, Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Jeanette Northrup, Mabel Kristofik, Robert and Win Eustice Willard Eustice; and sister-in-law, Elaine Eustice.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, with the Rev. Edwin Eastman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Cook Cemetery, West Oneonta.
