BURLINGTON FLATS - Nancy C. Czerkies of Burlington Flats, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Focus Otsego.
She was born Feb. 22, 1933, at the family farm in Black Brook. Her parents were Cassius Button and Mildred Colby Button.
Nancy attended public school in Utica, graduating in 1951.
She married John Czerkies on June 28, 1952, and soon moved to Verona, where they raised five children together.
The family moved to Cooperstown in 1970, where they owned and operated the Otsego Lake Motel. After selling their business in 1979, Nancy and John moved to Utica and partnered with their sons to form Zerco Enterprises, a construction company where she was office manager and bookkeeper.
In 1988, Nancy and John moved to Greensboro, Maryland, to be with their daughter, Victoria Buesgens.
Nancy was a kind and compassionate woman, the eternal mother figure. She started a new career in social services assisting the developmentally challenged with the ARC of Carroll County and the Caroline Center on the Eastern Shores. She retired in 2000.
Surviving Nancy are her four children, son, John Czerkies Jr. of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, his wife, Mary, and their sons, Jonathon, Jakub and Jarred; son, Gary Czerkies of Burlington Flats, and his wife, Karen; daughter, Lori Harvey of Van Hornesville and her husband, William and their sons, Michael and Daniel; and son, Douglas Czerkies of East Springfield and his wife, Linda. Also surviving are her son-in-law, Peter Buesgens of Goldsboro, Maryland and his children, Nathan, Matthew and Rebecca; as well as five great-grandchildren.
Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband, John; and her youngest child, Victoria Buesgens.
Nancy will be interred in the Taylor Hill Cemetery, Edmeston. Graveside memorial services will be in the spring, followed by a celebration of life at the home of Gary Czerkies at 255 John Hill Road, Burlington Flats.
