Patricia's Story

Text size

MORRIS - Patricia Mae (Mein) Northrop passed from this life on July 5, 2018, at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Oneonta, where she had been a resident for the recent few years.
Pat was born on Jan. 24, 1941, in Walton, to James Mein and Bonnylyn (Barringer) Mein.
Her younger years were spent in Sidney Center, where she lived with her mother and brother and attended elementary school, while father James spent some of that time away in combat during World War II.
Later, the family moved to a rural home on Idumea Road in Unadilla. There they lived a country life on a 40 acre farmette with horses, cows, gardening, church activities, softball games, travelling, boating trips and fun with neighborhood friends. The expanded family of six moved to Gilbertsville, during her teen years, where she made new friends and graduated from high school.
Following graduation, she worked for a while at the Oneonta Dress Factory and later at Bendix Corporation in Sidney.
Marriage was not a lasting endeavor for her, but the friendship remained. While she did not have children of her own, she dearly loved the children in her life and they loved her.
Pat was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan, enjoyed rock and roll music, stock car races, raising horses, horseback riding, shopping, yard sales and spending time with family and friends.
She had many friends who enjoyed her sunny disposition and generous spirit. Her positive, uncomplaining approach to life was apparent to and valued by all who knew her and her joyous laugh brought a smile.
She lived for years in Morris, where she became involved with community and charity work with the Magic Closet, contributing hours each week to the organization. When her health failed, she eventually left her home and entered the Chestnut Park facility. Her spirit of generosity carried over to the home where she visited with residents regularly, chatted with them and lifted their spirits.
She was predeceased by her parents; grandparents; aunts; uncles; and four first cousins.
She leaves behind her brothers, Martin Mein (Ann) and Alan Mein (Candy); sister, Debra Johnson (Howard); nephews, Michael Mein (Marcia), Jeffrey Mein (Amanda), and Travis Johnson (Jessica); as well as great-nieces, Amanda Ann Mein, Emily Mein, Lexi Johnson and great-nephew, Aaron Mein. First cousins include Leon Ulmer (Paula), Bonnie Lee Scribner (Bob), Mark Borden (Sally); and several extended second and third cousins.
In accordance with Pat's wishes, there will be no funeral. A memorial may be planned at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
