MILFORD - Richard C. Duke, 86, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at his home in Milford, surrounded by family.
He was born in Newark, New Jersey, on May 22, 1931, to Clarence and Helen Duke. Richard grew up with his sisters, Doris and Susan in Newark.
Richard was a good but rambunctious student whom upon completion of his education proceeded work to help support his family. Growing up in the depression era, he decided to enlist in the United States Army. He fought in the Korean War as a part of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged as Sargent.
He made his career as a machine mechanic at Shearing Pharmaceutical where he retired. He then moved to Milford, where he rejoined the workforce as a mechanic at F H Burt Co. in Oneonta. He then married and had a family with Amanda Shutters. He loved bowling, deepsea fishing, hunting, playing baseball and football with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his five children, Jamey, Tammy, Justin, Richard and Amanda; his 10 grandchildren, Zachary, Hailey, Ethan, Timothy, Trenton, Tanner, Ryan, Alex, Lailajune and Cyles.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on June 23, 2017 at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church Street, Cherry Valley.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
