SIDNEY - Richard J. Gardner, 68, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. He was born on Feb. 28, 1949, to the late Clarence and Marcella (Lowry) Gardner in Sidney.
He graduated from Sidney Central School with the Class of 1969 and received his associate degree from DeVry University. He served his country and received honorable discharges from both the United States Navy and the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
Richard was a member of the Sidney American Legion, VFW and the Sidney Elks Lodge.
Richard is survived by a son, Kevin and grandson, Lucious, both of St. Pete, Florida; sister, Kay Thrower of Sidney; nieces, Michele and Diana Thrower of Sidney, Cheri Thrower of Morrison, Colorado and Cheryl Brunton of Ohio; great-nephew, Spc. Josh Thrower of Ft. Carson, Colorado; nephews, Brad and Walt of Florida; as well as other nieces and nephews; and his best bud, Colin Kelly.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Clarence Jr.; and sister-in-law, Verna.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, July 21, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St.. Sidney. Memorial services will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
