VESTAL - Richard James Stanton, 34, of Vestal, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
He was born in Binghamton on June 8, 1984.
He is survived by his mother, Ann Stanton of Windsor and father, Richard H. (Andrea) Stanton of Deposit; his girlfriend, Allie Merry of Johnson City; grandmother Rita Baudendistel of Gulf Summit, step-grandmother, Sharon Pratt of Bainbridge; and step-brothers Austin (Lisa) Peck and Adam Peck; aunts and uncles James Baudendistel, John (Carolyn) Baudendistel, Mary (Paul) Spencer, Kate (Sam) Falank, Michael (Linda) Baudendistel, Thomas (Nancy) Baudendistel, Sally Stanton and John Pratt. Also surviving are special cousins, Jeanne (Chris) Ball, Frank (Cheryl) Falank, Thomas (Emma) Baudendistel, Stephanie (Rich) Altschuh, John Baudendistel, Katy (JP) Baudendistel, Colleen and Kaitlyn Baudendistel, David (Lindsey) Stanton, Mackenzie and Jake Stanton; niece and nephew, Connor and Olivia Peck.
He was predeceased by grandfather, Arthur Baudendistel; grandparents, Richard J. and Annette Stanton; uncle Gary Stanton; and cousins, Paul Spencer Jr. and Michael Stanton.
Rich was outgoing, big-hearted and charismatic. His personality attracted everyone to him. Those who were lucky enough to call him a friend, soon felt more like they were family. He was asked to be a groomsman in an uncountable number of weddings and was the best man in many of them. Many considered him their best friend and his heart was big enough to be that to all of them.
He spent most of his childhood in the summit, riding bikes, playing cops and robbers, wiffle ball, riding downhill and having water gun fights with his cousins who were more like siblings. Sundays were spent at Grandma and Pooh's for family dinners and Baudendistel iced tea. Rich loved Halloween, from trick or treating to the annual hayride, to costume parties; he always had the best, most elaborate and realistic costumes.
His family meant everything to him. He was a loving son. He enjoyed going out to eat and watched countless movies with his mom as well as vacations to Wildwood, New Jersey, and Florida growing up. The Stanton family loved spending time with Rich as a fan at his many sporting events or just relaxing watching movies and sharing laughs with him.
Rich graduated from Deposit High School in 2003. He also graduated from Broome Community College with a degree in communications.
He loved sports and played many years of Little League baseball, Hale Eddy football, Legion baseball and varsity football and baseball. He also acted in and produced countless semi-professional movies for school projects that became archives of Deposit education. He had a special group of friends from childhood to high school and they continued their friendship today.
Rich spent many mornings and afternoons on the golf course with his closest friends. He loved music, playing video games and watching movies. His arsenal of movie quotes was unbelievable. His Arnold impression was also one of a kind. He was a Yankees fan and loved the Philadelphia Eagles with a passion. Rich was always there to celebrate a birthday or a wedding and always up for a good time. He took great pride in his appearance and always had a fresh haircut and well-groomed beard. He loved "suiting up" on random nights out. He also had many tattoos and they told his story. Some were for his family and friends and some symbolic of him, with each one having deep meaning to him.
Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Saturday, June 8, at the Zacharias Funeral Home on Second Street in Deposit. A celebration of life will follow at noon at St. Joseph's Church on Second Street in Deposit, with burial in McClure Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at St. Joseph's Church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Deposit Midget League.
