SPRINGFIELD - Robert A. Tracy, 71, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Albany Medical Center. At the time of death, Robert was surrounded by a room full of family who loved him dearly.
Robert "Bob" Tracy grew up in Oxford, where he attended high school.
After graduation, Bob enlisted in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam war. During his enlistment, he meritoriously achieved E-5 (sergeant) rank in just three years and was honorably discharged.
After his time in the Marines, he purchased his great uncle's farm in Afton, with a goal of milking 50 cows. He was well on his way to achieving this goal when his barn burned, forcing him to restart. With his love of farming at heart and unwavering determination, he purchased a farm in East Springfield, where he spent the rest of his years and exceeded his goals. On his Golden Brook Farm, Bob earned more than a dozen awards, including nine for Herd Production Achievement and Consistent High Quality of Milk awards. He was a proud member of Dairylea and was recognized as a member of the American Legion for 50 years. In his later years he enjoyed the often company of lifelong friends and watching his cows graze from his porch.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Roger and Georgianna Tracy; his sister, Pat; and his son, Randy.
Surviving family includes his sisters, Carol (Earl) and Judy (Rocky; his partner, Linda; his sons, Martin and Jason; his grandchildren, Matthew (Shelby), Allen, Jared, Jazmin and Martin Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Levi and Mia; and his companion, Bronson. He is further survived by his many close friends who he held in very high regard.
Calling hours for Bob will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 24, at the Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley. Brief funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 25, in the cemetery in Springfield, followed by a celebration of life at his farm in East Springfield. All are welcome.
