Roger W.'s Story
NEW HARTFORD - Roger W. Felske, 73, of New Hartford passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at his home.
He was born May 19, 1944, in the Bainbridge Hospital and graduated from Bainbridge-Guilford Central High as co-president of his senior class. While a member of Boy Scout Troop 52 he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He went on to graduate from Utica College with a bachelor's degree in business administration and public relations and served on the board of directors for Mohawk Hospital Equipment for more than 20 years.
Roger was an independent sales contractor for more than 40 years, with a sales territory covering the Northeast United States. Despite the large amount of time and miles traveled on the road, he truly enjoyed his work and found it especially satisfying due to his work with special needs children and his role to assist in the recovery process of wounded veterans.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman and truly loved the Adirondack Mountains. He volunteered at the Cedar Lake Wilderness Area and the John Brooks Lodge and served as the director of the Iroquois chapter for many years. He joined the Utica Tramp and Trail in 1992 and served as president in 2009 and 2010. He was a "46'er" and hiked the ADK's highest peaks more than 100 times. Roger was a 50-year member of the Susquehanna-Afton Masonic Lodge 167.
His was married to Susan Felske for 28 years. She passed away in 1996.
Roger is survived by their daughter, Jackie and her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jeffry Glenn and their son, Larry and his wife, Colleen; grandchildren, Carly, Tyler, Hannah and Matt; and great-grandson, Brayden.
Additionally, he is survived by his stepmother, Muriel Felske; and siblings, Rinda Williams, Robin and Bill Walker, Kelly and Chad Hanson, Colleen Brown and Frank Brown. He also has several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by two very special people in his life, Mary Pat Connors and Trisha Cashman.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Felske and Barbara Robbins Felske.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, followed by a funeral service at Friedel Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park.
