Text size

SPRINGFIELD CENTER - Roxanne Ellis passed unexpectedly Sept. 1, 2017.
She was born April 13, 1943, in Cortland.
Growing up in Springfield Center, she loved horseback riding, softball and swimming at Public Landing, where she was also a lifeguard. She enjoyed the Fourth of July parade there all her life.
She married Rick Ellis Jan. 7, 1967. They had two children, Sean and Mary.
Roxy was active in the Lioness Club in Dolgeville and enjoyed walking her dogs, swimming, skiing and ice skating with her children. She participated in the choir at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Little Falls.
Roxanne's job took her to Syracuse where she retired. She then volunteered teaching literacy to adults and worked for her brother's music school.
Roxy moved back to Springfield Center and worked at Country Memories. She resumed singing in the choir, took up bridge, enjoyed reading, painting, writing, photography and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her siblings, Sue Barrett, Georgia (Tom) Cantwell, Pat Hinds and Richard Ford; her children, Sean (Carol) Ellis of Idaho and Mary (Brian Hinton) of North Carolina; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Springfield Center will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, with a gathering to follow for all at the firehall.
