CLIFTON, Colo. - Shirley Jean O'Keefe, 77, of Clifton, Colorado, passed away on Sept. 27, 2017, following a long illness with diabetes, heart and kidney disease.
She was the daughter of George Bowen and Erma Asel and widow of James A. O'Keefe III, after 23 years of marriage.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Dole; son, Paul Wade; stepdaughters, Cheryl Toothman, Darlene Reynolds, Jodi Mastin; stepson, Ken O'Keefe; brother, Jerry Bowen; and sister, Ruth Tillapaugh.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Patti Grimaldi; stepdaughters, Sharon Heinecke and Kathy Gohl; and brother, George Bowen; as well as her fiancé, Skip Reynolds.
She is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Shirley graduated from Bainbridge High School and Brown Tech as an LPN. She gave up her nursing career to raise her family and later worked at Borden Chemical for 30 years.
Many remember her for her poetry and especially for the afghans she crocheted and donated to organizations, family and friends.
She was grateful to all the people in her community who helped her through her health journey. She loved all of you very much and appreciated the gift of your love in return. It gave her strength all the way to the end.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Oct. 14, at First Presbyterian Church, Bainbridge.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Presbyterian Church in her name.
