MIDDLEFIELD - Shirley G. Tabor, 79, of Middlefield, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at home.
He was born June 5, 1938, at home, to Howard B. Tabor and Bertha (Graham) Tabor.
He married Gladys (Sammie) Knox on June 11, 1960.
He graduated from Cherry Valley Central School in 1956.
While in school he joined the National Guard. He was a member for eight years, first in Richfield Springs and then Oneonta.
He worked for Saxton Grocery Store in Cooperstown, Westville Leghorns Poultry in Westville, Barringer Motors in Cherry Valley and at Oneonta Tire and Auto, now known as Car Quest Auto Parts, in Oneonta for 40 years.
He was a member of Middlefield Methodist Church and Roseboom Cemetery Association, past Master of Westville Grange 540 and Otsego County Pomona Grange Master. He served as a Grange Junior Deputy and Deputy for Otsego, Herkimer, Schoharie, Fulton, Montgomery counties, until disbanded and was a National Grange seventh degree member.
Shirley is survived by his wife, Gladys; (Sammie), son, Lawrence (Larry) and daughter-in-law, Catherine Allen; granddaughter, Logan Grace Allen Tabor; sister, Irene (Kermit) Fassett of Springfield; sister-in-law, Sandy Tabor (Robert) Hunkins, Middlefield; brother-in-law, Roger Halbert, Gilbertsville; sisters-in-law, Joanne Holcombe of California, Marilyn (Jimmie) Marshman,Texas and Dora Knox of Florida; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Howard B. and Bertha Tabor; brother, Lloyd Tabor; sister, Helen Halbert; nephew, Allen Fassett; brothers-in-law, Luzerne Holcombe, John Start, Lewis Knox; and son, Gary Knox Tabor.
Funeral services will be at the Middlefield Baptist Church in Middlefield on Rezen Road at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, with Pastor Ron Fralick officiating. Burial will be in the spring.
