Walter P. Payack

FORT PLAIN - Walter P. Payack, 81, of Fort Plain, completed his earthly journey June 10, 2019 and is now in heaven with his wife Mary (Maluk) Payack and his parents, Frank and Olga Payack. He is survived by his children, four sons and a daughter; Walter Jr. of Carmel, Indiana; Robert of Schenectady; Andrew of Fort Plain; Michael of Little Falls; and Laura of Coeymans. Walt also leaves behind five grandsons, six granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.
He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man, an accomplished machinist/toolmaker, a dedicated teacher, a loving father, a compassionate farmer, and a right good accordion player.
Born Walter Paul Payack on July 1, 1937 in Woodbridge, New Jersey, he grew up on Route 10 in Whippany. He was a graduate of Essex County Vocational and Technical High School, Class of 1955.
Married to Mary Ann Maluk in 1959, they grew their dreams and family together. Working as a machinist during the day, he went to Rutgers University at night to become an educator, teaching machine shop at Sussex County Vocational and Technical High School for many years.
Formerly of Branchville, New Jersey, farming brought them to Fort Plain in 1983 where they had many good times through the years on their dairy farm on Clinton Road. He went on to start a machine and repair shop with the help of his sons, known as Diversified Machine & Tool Co.
Walt loved farming, fixing things, and all animals, especially German shepherds. He lived a full and rich life and had a passion for restoring old cars and tractors. He was happiest in his shop with his dog by his side and his family around him. The family misses him dearly.
At his request, there were to be no funeral arrangements, we are sorry if you did not get to say goodbye. The family does not request any gifts or donations to be made, however if Walt touched your life over the years, he would have been pleased if you toasted him with a shot of Drambuie in his honor.
We would also like to add a very special thanks to Bassett Mediacal Center and all of the staff at Palatine Nursing Home, where Walt was cared for and treated with respect and dignity until his last day.
