LAURENS - On Aug. 16 2017, William E. Brooks Jr., went to be with the lord. He lost his courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Youngstown Ohio, on Jan. 17, 1941, he moved to New York as a young man.
After moving to Elmira, he married Harriet Bucca-Brooks of Reading Pennsylvania, and had two children, Daniel Brooks and Antoinette Brooks-Shipe.
Later, he moved to the Laurens area, met Barbara Sitts of Laurens, married her and had two children, James M. Brooks and William E. Brooks III of Laurens.
William worked at Laurens Central School for many years in maintenance and as a school bus driver, retiring after 23 years of service. He will always be remembered for the jingling keys everyone heard as he walked down the hallways. His children remember his willingness after working all day to hop behind the wheel of a bus and drive for the sports team or the marching band. He really enjoyed his time with his grandkids and watching them play sports.
He will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by his father, William E. Brooks Sr. and mother, Dorothy Brown- Brooks, both of Ohio; sister, Micky Coe of California; brother, Ron Brooks of Ohio; and former wife, Harriet Bucca-Brooks of Pennsylvania.
Survivors include children, James Brooks and his wife, Kelly Kopf-Brooks (Nick, Ashlie, James) of Laurens, William Brooks of Laurens (Ashlyn, Alyse, Harley, Hannah, Faith, Halona), Antoinette Brooks-Shipe (Rod) of Pennsylvania, Daniel Brooks (Josh, Jeremy) of Pennsylvania; former wife, Barbara Sitts-Brooks-Delaney (Pat) of Oneonta; sister, Patricia Triofante and husband, Carmen of Ohio; brothers, Mike Brooks of Ohio and James Brooks and his wife, Carol, also of Ohio.
His life was spoiling his 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
