COBLESKILL - Alvana S. Grasso, 96, formerly of Cobleskill, died Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown.

Born on Oct. 6, 1922, in North Harpersfield, she was the daughter of Anna (Coons) and Horace W. Rifenbark Sr.

She married Frank M. Grasso on Jan. 4, 1942. He predeceased her in 2002. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Gloria; sons, Frank and LeRoy; daughter-in-law, Clara; and grandson, Nathan.

Survivors include her daughters, Ella M. (Ken) Sager of Rogersville, Tennessee and Theresa J. Grasso of Albany; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Lottie Allen; and nieces and nephews.

Alvana was a homemaker and took pride in raising her family. She made handiwork for the Everything Shoppe in Cobleskill and enjoyed crocheting. Alvana was a member of the Barnerville United Methodist Church and former member of the Cobleskill Wesleyan Church. Her faith and trust in God sustained her throughout her life.

For the past several years, Alvana lived at the Montgomery Nursing Home, Montgomery, near her loving granddaughter, April, her husband, Tim, and her great-granddaughter, Emily, who she especially loved.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with the Rev. Donald Klob officiating.

Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 22. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery.
